Its been a while since brass was in style, but after years of being replaced by stainless steel, chrome and brushed nickel, brass is making a comeback in interior design. This golden colored metal started emerging back on the scene a couple of years back, and the trend is picking up speed. Its safe to say brass is here to stay (well for as long as any style trend is likely to last, anyway).
What I love about brass is its warmth. It offers a great way to warm up your décor. It may take a bit of time for some to get over the idea that brass is outdated since its been off the scene for a while. But remember that this was our reaction when all the silver toned chrome and steel started coming back, replacing the gold tones we’d been so accustomed to a decade ago. Its simply the reverse now.
But if you need some time to warm up to this style change, you don’t have to go all “80s” and brass-out the entire house. Why not just dip your toe in the water slowly? Using brass in just few places as an accent is actually more on trend right now anyhow (though we expect it to gain more momentum over the next while).
If you really want to be on the cutting edge of style, think mixed metals. Its no longer an all or nothing proposition when it comes to the metal tones used in your home. Mixing together chrome, nickel, brass, and bronze fixtures and décor is very much on trend, regardless of whether your style is contemporary or traditional. Brass is popping up in more and more, from pendant lights over the island, to brass faucets, or even brass pulls to dress up the kitchen cabinets.
